Call me crazy but, the maximalist designer in me has been eagerly awaiting fall for some time now. When it comes to decorating for those chillier times of the year, more is definitely more, and layering is key! Truth be told, I probably take too much joy in seeing a perfectly dressed sofa filled with fabulously cozy throw blankets and overflowing with inviting toss cushions. But I can’t help it, my heart races and I just want to dive in, light a fire, and enjoy a nice glass of wine and a good book.

Maybe it’s the mother in me or my homebody tendencies this time of year, but decorating for fall has always been an important time for me to refresh things around the house and set up for the months ahead. Now, I may not be a camping kind of girl per se, but my whole family loves to camp out at home! Taking my love for natural designs with ques from the oh so chic outdoor glamping trends, my home this fall will elevate those rustic elements that Urban Barn does so well to more glamourous and sophisticated levels.

What I love about this trend is that it sets the tone for a warm home by combining rustic wood grained furniture with the unexpected. Use friendly faux furs, sophisticated black accents and touch of glitz to add a bit of welcomed contrast to your home.

And when it comes to contrast in design, no other decade did it quite as well as the 70’s. From Mid-Century Modern inspired furniture pieces and retro infused textiles and geometric prints, this fall we look towards this groovy time for inspiration.  In the past, the 70’s may have not so fondly been referred to as the decade taste forgot, but it is the 70’s clean lined and classic furniture pieces that have proven to be timeless.
